Technology: Its History and Modern Conveniences of E-books

Hi, my name is Robert and welcome to my room of my own.  I want it to be a place where it’s just not my room but for all my readers.  This first blog will discuss and focus on the way media technology should play in teaching within all levels!  First, we must realize what technology really is!  When we think about the term we initially think about electronics: computers, internet, cellphones etc.  But what if I told you technology has been around for thousands of years?  If you were to get deep in its history, you would notice it’s been around for a long time.  In this case, I’ll focus on a more specific definition.  Technology just means to evolve an earlier invention to a more convenient and modern object.  One of my favorite
pieces of technology is the printing press, which was first invented in the mid-15th century.  Now, we have quick computers and printers that can print a max volume as compared to the legendary printing press.  Even so, before the printing press, men were hired to handwrite volumes repeatedly.  Today, media technology plays an important role for teaching in all levels in two ways.  First, it can teach students about its history and second its use can teach us the amount of access we can learn from.  One great piece of media technology are E-books.  Those are my favorite if I have too many books I need to read for school.  I wouldn’t want to have to drag all those books from one class to another.  E-books give students of all ages fast access, it’s more appealing and generates a veracity to organizing a student’s time well.

  1. Hi Robert, I like your blog! The title is very well thought-out. Additionally I like your ideas about technology in the classroom, there is so many ways it can benefit the students and the teachers, from being able to share lessons and ideas, to stream-lining grading and making content more available. I also like that it can be a history lesson, technology isn't just cell phones it's the whiteboards and door frames and everything in between that came about through invention and inquisitive minds. It can be stressful and at times seem impossible to separate students from their own tech. There's studies about how distracting it is and how disruptive it can be to the mind. Questions about the humanity of bringing it to a teaching environment. But overall it's coming and we need to find ways to make it work for us, and the students.

Thank you for your insights and thoughts!

  2. Hey Robert! I like the name of your blog and I also liked how you added a picture of the printing press to your blog post, it was a very nice touch! I agree with you that technology isn't just the newest computers and cell phones but its also the pencils we write with. It's very easy to forget and dismiss all the technology that came before the computer or cell phone. When it comes to ebooks, I personally don't like them, I have to have a paper edition even if it means carrying the extra weight. But I do agree that for some students this feature can be a great benefit to their learning. Do you think schools should invest in a class set of iPads instead of a class set of textbooks?
